Switch Active Installation
Only one installation can be active at any given time. The active installation determines which products you see, which devices you can control, and which data subscriptions are active.
The app "subscribes" to your active installation using the API. This ensures you only receive real-time updates and can control products within that specific installation. To interact with products in a different installation, you must switch to it first.
Understanding Active vs. Inactive Installations
- Active Installation: All screens (Dashboard, Products, Scenes, etc.) display content from this installation only
- Inactive Installations: You won't see their products or data, except for notifications about events requiring your attention
How to Switch Installations
- Mobile App
- Web Portal
Using the Installation Switcher
-
Locate the installation switcher
- Usually found on the Dashboard screen (e.g., dropdown menu or selector)
- Or accessible via Settings → Installations
-
Select a different installation
- Tap the installation switcher
- Choose the installation you want to make active
- The app will switch immediately
-
App updates automatically
- All screens refresh to show the newly selected installation
- The Dashboard updates to show products from the new installation
Single Installation
If you only have one installation:
- The switcher displays the installation name and location
- No switching is necessary
Using the Installation Selector
-
Locate the installation selector
- Found in the header or sidebar
-
Click to select a different installation
- A dropdown or menu will appear
- Click on the installation you want to make active
-
Page refreshes
- The portal reloads to reflect the selected installation
- All data and controls now apply to the new installation
Automatic Switching
The app automatically switches to a new installation when you:
- Create a new installation – It becomes active immediately
- Join an existing installation – It becomes active immediately
What Changes When You Switch
When you switch installations, the following are affected:
| Feature | Behavior |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Shows products from the active installation only |
| Products | Lists products in the active installation |
| Scenes | Shows scenes created for the active installation |
| Routines | Shows routines configured for the active installation |
| Weather Data | Displays weather from the active installation's gateway |
| Notifications | You still receive notifications from all installations, but they're labeled by installation |
Notifications from Inactive Installations
Even when an installation is not active, you'll still receive notifications for events that require your attention (e.g., device offline, routine failed, access request). These notifications will indicate which installation they're from.
Expected Result
- The app displays content from the newly selected installation
- All controls and data apply to the active installation
- The installation switcher shows the current active installation
Tips
- Switch before adding products: Make sure the correct installation is active before adding devices
- Use descriptive names: Name your installations clearly (e.g., "Home", "Vacation House") to avoid confusion
- Check the switcher: Always verify which installation is active before making changes
